IMPORTANT UPDATE! October 11-13, 2024 – Seminar with Mary Heiny Sensei Has Changed

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Mary Heiny Sensei will be unable to travel to Brattleboro this weekend. I think this is even more difficult for Mary than it is for us. She is very pleased and heartened to know that we plan to hold the seminar anyway. Mary has asked that we train together and enjoy our fellowship. She has requested photos be taken so she can see people’s faces. As usual there will be food and friendship on Friday after class and a potluck on Saturday evening.

This seminar will now be led by a roster of instructors who will be leading classes on the theme “Something I’ve learned from Mary Heiny Sensei that has profoundly influenced my Aikido.” The line-up so far includes Aimee Bel Sensei, Charles Colten Sensei, Tim Cooper Sensei, and me (Don Hebert). We are working on getting commitments from others and I will announce the entire roster of instructors in an update.

The seminar fees have changed (see below). The proceeds for the seminar will be used to help cover expenses that Mary has already incurred (such as non-refundable air fares) and her loss of seminar income. Any one who has pre-paid the original seminar fee can get a refund upon request.

Regular Practice

Welcome to River Valley Aikido. Our Dojo was established in 1992 in Brattleboro, Vermont. We are dedicated to traditional Aikido training with an emphasis on personal development, both spiritual and physical.

We invite you to visit us and train. Beginners are always welcome and train at their own pace. We are located in a beautifully renovated church not far from Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

Membership dues are purposefully affordable ($35/month).

We are now training three evenings a week:

Monday 6pm to 7pm
Thursday 6:30pm to 7:30pm
Friday 6pm to 7pm

Non-Seminar Covid protocols have been implemented to maximize safe training:

  1. We urge all practitioners to be fully vaccinated but not required.
  2. Masks are optional.
  3. Windows are open during good weather and the overhead fans are on.
  4. A high-end Jade medical grade air filter has been installed.

These protocols will change as the pandemic conditions change.
